Kenyan police revealed on Saturday that they had discovered three additional bags filled with dismembered female body parts at a rubbish dump, a grisly find that has shocked the nation.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, these sacks were retrieved from an abandoned quarry in a Nairobi slum and contained various body parts, including severed legs and two torsos.
“We want to assure the public that our investigations will be thorough and shall cover a wide range of areas, including but not limited to the possible activities of cultists and serial killings,” the DCI stated.
This shocking discovery follows last year’s unearthing of mass graves containing the bodies of hundreds of followers of a doomsday starvation cult leader, which had already shaken Kenya deeply.
On Friday, police reported the discovery of at least six mutilated female bodies at the dumpsite in Mukuru, a southern area of Nairobi.
The state-funded police watchdog added that nine bodies had been found, seven of which were women.
The DCI urged the public to stay calm as the investigation continues, stating, “we appeal to the members of the public to remain calm and give our detectives a chance to deliver justice to the victims of this horrendous scene.”
The situation at the site has been tense, with the DCI noting that their detectives and forensic experts “were impeded by agitated members of the public from accessing the scene”.
