The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State Command, announced on Monday that a 400-level student of Abubakar Audu University, Ayangba, identified as Fauziyah Muhammed, had been rescued in Ilorin while wandering unclothed.
Fauziyah, a 19-year-old English Education student, was reportedly abducted in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State on Sunday morning, allegedly hypnotized, and later abandoned in Kwara State’s capital.
Reports indicated, that the incident occurred between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The NSCDC commandant, Dr. Umar Muhammed. revealed during a press briefing in Ilorin that residents of the Ajegunle-Isale community along Egbejila Road discovered Fauziyah early Monday morning.
“She was found naked while some Good Samaritans in Ajegunle Isale, Egbejila Road, Ilorin provided her with clothes and we as a command have tried to comfort her,” the commandant stated.
He added that Fauziyah’s speech was incoherent, hinting at a traumatic experience during her captivity.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq was briefed on the situation and, according to Dr. Muhammed, has pledged to assist with logistics to return the student to Kogi.
Fauziyah herself could not recall how she arrived in Ilorin but recounted: “One of the books I carried dropped and as I made to pick it, I lost consciousness.”
The NSCDC plans to release Fauziyah to Mallam Salihu Aliu, identified as her uncle, who has been authorized by the family to act on their behalf.
In a separate development, the command also paraded a suspect, Abu Usman Soja, alleged to be an informant for kidnappers involved in the abduction of a woman and her two children in Ajase-Ipo, Irepodun Local Government Area.
According to Dr. Muhammed, the family was taken on November 7, 2024, and the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N50 million, later reducing it to N15 million.
“The kidnappers demanded N50m ransom but later reduced it to N15m. The mother has been released while the kidnappers have escaped into the forest with the children,” the commandant confirmed.
