Three aides of the caretaker chairman of Kabba Bunu Local Government Area in Kogi State, Zacchaeus Dare, have been freed after being kidnapped two weeks ago.
According to The PUNCH, Dare, who was abducted alongside his aides and two Kogi State University students on the Okene/Kabba road, managed to escape after a few hours.
The kidnappers abandoned him when he could no longer keep up with their pace.
The three aides—Omonisaiye Andrew, Mr. Olorundare Ojo, a councillorship candidate for Egbeda Ward, and Sunday Ajayi, the APC Youth leader in Egbeda Ward—were released along with four other captives who had been held for the past 12 days.
In a statement, Dare expressed his gratitude to God and acknowledged the efforts of Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo for his swift response.
He also commended the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Security and both professional and local hunters for their bravery and determination in securing the release.
“I sincerely praise the men of the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, professional and local hunters for their courage and bravery that led to the rescue,” Dare said.
He further thanked the people of Kabba Bunu LGA and the broader state for their prayers, which contributed to the successful release.
Dare disclosed that the freed aides and other kidnapped individuals were found near the Oyo mining site at Obajana.
He urged security agencies to continue their efforts in combing the forests in the area for further discoveries.
