Idris Adeiza, the son of a bricklayer from Kogi State, scored an impressive 323 in the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
Alex Onyia, the chief executive officer of Educare, a leading software firm, highlighted Adeiza’s achievement on his X handle @winexviv.
He noted the youngster’s remarkable performance in the UTME, which took place between Friday, April 19, and Monday, April 29, 2024. Adeiza, with registration number 202441078764HF, scored 63 in English Language, 86 in Mathematics, 86 in Physics, and 88 in Chemistry, totaling 323.
Despite his high score, which ranks him as the second highest in Kogi State, Adeiza faces the grim prospect of discontinuing his education due to financial constraints.
His parents, a bricklayer and a trader, are unable to afford his tertiary education, leaving him with little hope of continuing his academic journey.
As a result, he was considering learning a vocation like his father until Onyia’s intervention offered a glimmer of hope for his future.
“I spoke with him few minutes ago and have committed to supporting his education journey through the university,” Onyia said.
“He wants to study Chemical Engineering in the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna) and I pray he succeeds well. He is a star and the world will celebrate him someday.”
Many Nigerians have taken to social media to applauded Onyia for his kind gesture while criticizing the Kogi State government for failing to support its citizens.
@oteessolution1 expressed their support, adding, “I will also support by giving him 150k every semester.”
@IkayOnyia highlighted the value of education and said, “The importance of education cannot be overemphasized. One educated child can change the history of an entire family. Government should please look closely on education!”
Criticizing political leadership, @Ozo_Udo, wrote, “Their runaway former Governor should adopt him. After Igbos train him through giveaways, he will swear not to allow Igbo Presidency.”
@YoungGreatm001, who also congratulated and encouraged further support, wrote, “Big congratulations bro, I know you will surely get help. Let’s support him; he can get a scholarship to further his education.”
@ocatiz pointed out government corruption, saying, “From the same state where the government looted N80 billion for his child and posted a video of himself in a new Benz.”
@EnitanOyekanm, who criticized the governor’s priorities, said, “Well done, yet his governor paid over $906k for his own children’s education rather than instituting a robust scholarship scheme for the bright ones from his state.”
Meanwhile, Onyia has announced that his team will now focus on engaging youngsters in vocational training with the JAMB exams completed.
“Now that JAMB is over, we developed a vocational training plan for my village youngsters to enable them to acquire quality skills before starting school. One of them is the Songhai Agricultural Training Program, which the first batch has started. They will be trained in crop production, animal husbandry, food production, processing, and marketing,” he said.
