The Nigerian Police’s Kogi State Command has vowed to prevent troublemakers from operating freely during the state’s governorship election on November 11.
The command committed to cooperate with other sister security agencies to prevent violence from occurring during the upcoming governorship election in November.
On day two of the Media Roundtable/Engagement on the Kogi Governorship Election arranged for Journalists from Kogi State, SP Williams Ayah of the Police Public Relations Office made this announcement.
Ayah promised that with the right cooperation, the violence connected to the state’s next governorship election will be put an end.
The Command has initiated training and retraining programmes for its personnel with the aim of ensuring a peaceful election within the State. It has emphasised its commitment to taking strict action against any individuals who engage in disruptive behaviour.
He expressed confidence that the election in the state will go off without a hitch and stated that the state will see a heavy deployment of adequate security services in addition to the Police. He also pledged the neutrality of the Police.
“Similarly, the State Command would create a joint operation room made up of the Nigerian Army, NSCDC, Immigration, NDLEA, Correctional Service, and FRSC who will be collating reports geared towards dousing violence,” the command said.
SP Ayah emphasised that coordinated security management was necessary to ensure the credibility of the Kogi election.
He warned against citizen journalists producing unprofessional media reports and promised that the police will work with established media to combat false information.
The Kogi State Police Command’s spokesperson promised impenetrable security measures to protect people and property and urged troublemakers to avoid the state before, during, and after the Kogi governorship election.
