A woman from Okenne, Kogi State, has voiced her distress over the disappearance of her 32-year-old daughter, Hamidat Abdulrafiu, who left home to meet a customer in Lokoja, Kogi State, on June 18, 2024.
Hamidat’s mother, Mrs. Ramot Yakubu, shared the situation with City Round, revealing that her daughter’s phone has been unreachable since June 19.
Mrs. Ramot explained that Hamidat was last traced to Abuja but there have been no reports of kidnapping or accidents.
Despite filing a report with the police, efforts to locate her have been unsuccessful.
She described Hamidat as a businesswoman who sells unisex clothes and often travels to Lokoja to meet customers and collect payments for goods sold on credit.
“When she got to Lokoja, she called me that she was there. And it was later in the morning on the 19th when I started chatting with her and there was no response that I sensed trouble. I dialed her number and it was not reachable throughout that day up till now,” Mrs. Ramot recounted.
Hamidat’s younger sister, who studies at the Federal University, Lokoja, confirmed that Hamidat had not visited her.
Mrs. Ramot also noted that Hamidat’s friend, who stayed at her place, returned from Abuja on the 19th. People in the compound reported seeing Hamidat leave around 8:00 pm on the 18th after receiving a call.
According to Mrs. Ramot, the people in the compound observed that Hamidat had not eaten the food she had sent someone to buy for her. They found her bathing soap, body cream, and the clothes she wore upon arrival in her room, with the food still untouched.
When asked about any ransom demands or threats, Mrs. Yakubu stated there had been none.
A police officer from the Adavi Police Divisional Headquarters, John Stephen, confirmed the incident, saying, “According to her family, nothing of such has not happened where she would go for days without returning home.”
