The Kwara State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has reportedly arrested not fewer than 225 suspected drug traffickers and seized 809, 200 kilograms of illicit drugs in 2023.
This was made known by the acting state commander of the agency, Odewale Adebimpe while addressing newsmen in commemoration of the 2023 World Drug Day, in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, on Tuesday.
She said that the command secured 57 convictions while 39 cases were still pending in court.
She also said that 99 drug users were counseled by the command, even as she frowned at the involvement of students of institutions of higher learning in drug abuse.
She reiterated that the command is working hard to reverse the trend by conducting intelligence-led operational activities as well as engaging in various advocacy and enlightenment measures.
She called for support from relevant bodies including the government and other stakeholders to join hands in the reduction of drug abuse and trafficking.
