The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission has shortlisted 1,800 applicants for teaching positions across the state.
This announcement was made in a statement by the commission’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onile, which was shared with journalists in Ilorin.
Onile explained that the selection process involved a rigorous screening, which included a computer-based test and interviews over the course of three months.
“The shortlisted candidates include 790 (44%) for STEM subjects, 581 for core subjects, 370 for specialized subjects, and 59 for technical subjects,” Onile said. “They will be assigned to senior secondary schools across the 16 local government areas of the state, in line with the commission’s needs assessment.”
Applicants who attended the interviews have been encouraged to check their status on the portal. Onile also revealed that all shortlisted candidates must undergo a mandatory drug test to determine their fitness to teach.
“The drug test will be conducted by the NDLEA and overseen by Hon. Mukail Aileru, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Drugs Abuse, Prevention and Control,” he added.
The drug tests are scheduled to take place between Wednesday, April 9, 2025, and Saturday, April 12, 2025. Candidates from Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, and Patigi are set for testing on Wednesday, April 9.
Those from Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin will be tested on Thursday, April 10. Testing for candidates from Offa, Oke Ero, Oyun, and Moro will occur on Friday, April 11, while candidates from Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, and Ilorin West will be tested on Saturday, April 12.
Onile stressed that the NDLEA will send the results directly to the commission, ensuring no candidate can access or alter their test certificates.
“Successful candidates will also sign a bond agreeing not to seek a transfer for six years,” Onile noted, highlighting this as a response to the shortage of teachers in rural areas.
He further mentioned that shortlisted applicants should bring medical certificates from any state government hospital, along with the original copies of their credentials for documentation.
They are also required to submit photocopies of these documents for record purposes and present handwritten letters of acceptance for the job offer. Details on other conditions of service will be provided during the documentation process.
