Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has expressed his belief that the La Liga outcome did not accurately reflect his team’s superb performance this season, noting that they were better than Real Madrid and Girona.
Xavi made these comments in a post-match speech after Barcelona lost 4-2 to Girona on Saturday, ultimately handing Real Madrid the 36th LaLiga title in their history.
Despite losing both league fixtures against Girona and Real Madrid, Xavi insists that the results did not reflect the balance of play in those matches.
He said, “In the four games against the two teams above us, Madrid and Girona, we have been superior.
“But it is not reflected in the scoreline and we have lost all four, so we have to improve a lot.”
Barcelona, who will end this campaign without any silverware, will now compete with Girona to secure a second-place finish.
