The body of Nigeria’s late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, will arrive in Abuja from Lagos on Thursday, where a guard of honor will be held to pay last respects to the military leader.
Following the ceremonial arrival, his remains will be escorted along a red carpet, witnessed by senior military officials, before being placed in an ambulance for transfer to a final resting place.
General Lagbaja will be interred at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja on Friday.
President Bola Tinubu announced the General’s passing last week, revealing that he had died in Lagos after a battle with illness.
Born on February 28, 1968, Lagbaja had served as Chief of Army Staff for one year and four months, following his appointment by Tinubu in June 2023.
During his tenure, Lagbaja contributed significantly to multiple internal security operations across the country.
His leadership extended to key missions such as Operation ZAKI in Benue State, Lafiya Dole in Borno, Udoka in the Southeast, and Operation Forest Sanity in Kaduna and Niger States.
Lagbaja’s untimely death marks him as the second Chief of Army Staff to die in office in the past three years. His passing follows that of Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, who tragically died in 2021, only months into his role.
