The Lagos State Government has announced 15-month traffic diversion at Mile 2, affecting both the Apapa-bound and Badagry-bound lanes, to accommodate the construction of a Transport Interchange Terminal.
This diversion, aimed at integrating various modes of transportation including Rail, Bus, Water, and Non-Motorised options, is set to begin on Monday, November 11, 2024, and is expected to last 15 months, concluding on Monday, February 16, 2026.
In a statement by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, it was detailed that Loop 1 on the Apapa-bound lane and Loop 4 on the Badagry-bound lane will undergo redirection, impacting the usual traffic flow.
“The Lagos State Government has announced that traffic will be diverted at Loop 1 on the Apapa bound lane and Loop 4 on the Badagry bound lane at Mile 2 for a duration of 15 months for the construction work of the Transport Interchange Terminal that will integrate Rail, Bus, Water and Non–Motorised Transportation,” the statement read.
To assist affected motorists, the government has issued specific alternative routes: those traveling from Apapa to Oshodi can proceed via through traffic and vice versa.
Meanwhile, those heading from Apapa towards Badagry should remain on the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, make a turn onto Akinwande Road to connect with Coker, and then access the Lagos–Badagry Expressway to continue their journey.
Similarly, motorists traveling from Badagry to Lagos will have continuous through traffic, while drivers heading towards Apapa will be diverted through Durban Road, linking them to Amuwo Odofin Estate before they rejoin the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.
To ensure a smooth transition, the diversion routes will be clearly marked with signage to guide drivers, and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officers will be stationed along the routes to assist with traffic control.
Osiyemi urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officials, saying these measures are essential to reduce any disruptions during the construction period.
