The Lagos State Government on Tuesday issued a warning against open defecation while launching a cleanup effort on the Ojodu-Berger median, which had been sullied by such unsanitary practices.
The State’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared a video on X showcasing officials from the ministry engaged in the cleaning efforts.
In his post, Wahab emphasized, “Lagos State commences clean-up of Ojodu-Berger median, warns against defecating on the road.”
The median along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway had become a significant eyesore due to this unsanitary practice.
According to The PUNCH, in January, the area had seen an alarming increase in such incidents, with miscreants defacing the road median with feces.
This unfortunate situation forced pedestrians to cover their noses while crossing the expressway.
The cleanup is not only a response to the growing public health concern but also a step toward restoring the area’s aesthetics and safety.
Residents in the vicinity have long been vocal about the adverse effects of the strong odors emanating from these spots, which they assert pose serious risks to personal hygiene and well-being.
The government’s intervention aims to curb this dangerous trend and improve the overall environment for everyone using the expressway.
