A two-storey building located at 70, Adetola Street, Aguda, Surulere, partially collapsed on Wednesday due to heavy rainfall.
The Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed the incident in a statement.
According to the statement, “LASEMA received distress calls at 10:51 am and swiftly responded with its Response Team arriving at the scene by 11:09 am.
“Upon investigation, it was discovered that the frontal part of the building had collapsed, but fortunately, no one was trapped or injured as the building had shown signs of distress before the incident, allowing all occupants to evacuate safely.
“The building, a mix of residential and commercial purposes, comprises six flats and eight shops.
“The LASEMA team, along with other responding agencies, conducted a risk assessment and public advocacy to ensure the safety of residents and surrounding properties.”
According to the statement, the affected building has been cordoned off for further action by relevant government agencies.
The statement added that operation is still ongoing, and updates will follow.
