The Lagos State Government has started a campaign to educate and inform property owners in the state’s Eti-Osa, Ikoyi Obalende, Iru Victoria Island, and Lagos Island East Local Government/Local Council Development Areas about Land Use Charge issues.
According to a statement released on Wednesday, this is a part of efforts to inform and enlighten important stakeholders on the significance of paying the Land Use Charge as well as to solicit insightful comments from locals.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Hundogan Temitope, the program’s goal is to persuade property owners to pay their land usage charge bill in order to further state development.
Temitope stated that in order to fund the significant infrastructure projects being undertaken around the State, the administration urgently needs to increase its internal revenue.
He said, “The Land Use Charge taxes are an integral source of internally generated revenue for the state government which is used for the provision of socio-economic infrastructure and amenities.”
Temitope emphasised that the progress of any community is grounded on the adherence of its citizens to the payment of their taxes, citing the recent Blue Line rail transit system, which has recently began commercial operations.
He, however, frowned on the “untoward behaviour of some property owners who deny officials access to their properties” and appealed to them to “kindly cooperate with the state government by allowing officials designated to distribute bills to do their jobs without any attack.”
