The Lagos State Government has launched an operation to clear out illegal shanties beneath the Elegbata Bridge near Apongbon, as part of its broader initiative to uphold public order and enhance the cleanliness and safety of the state.
This announcement was made on Sunday by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who shared the update on X handle,
He explained that the eviction of squatters in this area reflects the government’s commitment to creating a cleaner, more organized Lagos, particularly in high-traffic zones where unregulated settlements pose safety and sanitation challenges.
Detailing the efforts, Wahab noted, “Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (#LAGESCOfficial) have dislodged illegal squatters under the Elegbata Bridge by Apongbon.”
The operation is a significant part of Lagos’s urban renewal agenda, targeting makeshift settlements in key locations to deter further encroachment and ensure public infrastructure remains unobstructed and safe for public use.
