The Lagos State Government on Monday lifted the ban placed on Chrisland International High School.
In a statement made available by the State Commissioner of Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo on Monday evening, the state government granted the school to open its facilities for physical learning ahead of the school’s forthcoming examinations after the parents’ appeal.
It would be recalled that the government had earlier directed that the school be shut down on March 3, 2023, after the investigation leading to the death of a 12-year-old student, Whitney Adeniran.
The shutdown of the school, according to Sanwo-Olu through the state ministry of education, will allow for a thorough inquiry and give time for mourning to all parties involved, including parents, students, staff, and friends of the deceased.
However Mrs. Adefisayo stated that the ministry has granted authorization for pupils in terminal classes to commence physical learning at the school’s Opebi branch in advance of their upcoming exams.
According to her, “The school will remain closed until all necessary judicial processes superintended over by the State’s Ministry of Justice and other ongoing administrative inquests within the purview of the Office of Education Quality Assurance and other agencies are completed”.
She also explained that the decision was taken to allow the students in terminal classes to return to school.
“The temporary permission to allow the terminal classes comprising JSS3 and SS3 students access to the school was granted to enable them to participate in their terminal examinations.
“The Ministry, with the support of the Lagos State Joint Task Force in charge of the implementation of the child protection policy and safeguarding, which is made up of representatives of different Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, such as the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Office of Education Quality Assurance and others, will continue to engage with Whitney Adeniran’s Family”, the Commissioner stated.
