The Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa square on Tuesday reportedly remanded a 37-year-old security guard Michael Pius for allegedly killing a man after stoning him on his chest.
According to The PUNCH, the defendant was taken before Justice Yetunde Adesanya after being charged with one count of murder.
The deceased, Paul Assigno, and the defendant, Pius, were involved in an argument that evolved into a struggle during which Pius stoned the victim to death.
The Lagos State prosecutor, Olayemi Shofolu declared his appearance when the case was called for arraignment, while Alexander Oshogba appeared for the defendant.
According to Shofolu, the event took place on December 3, 2018, at 93 Falolu Street in the Surulere neighbourhood of Lagos State.
He claimed Pius struck Assigno in the chest with a stone to murder him.
The prosecution claims that the offence violates Section 223 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
The defendant, however, entered a not-guilty plea to the accusation.
Shofolu requested a trial date from the court after entering his plea.
Justice Adesanya remanded the defendant in custody and continued the matter till the start of the trial on January 24.l on January 24.
