The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to stopping pipeline vandalism and making sure that state residents are safe from their actions.
This was said by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Sholabomi Shasore, at a stakeholders’ conference and public education programme held for the communities that host oil and gas pipelines in the state’s Amuwo Odofin, Abule Ado, Ori Ade, FESTAC, and Satellite Town regions.
According to a statement released by the ministry on Sunday, Shasore lamented the senseless loss of life and property brought on by the illegal acts of pipeline vandals. Shasore was represented by the Head of the Oil and Gas Department at the ministry, Sesan Odukoya.
According to her, the state government is attempting to reduce the number of fire outbreaks caused by pipeline vandalism.
Also deputy head of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, Richard Davies noted that explosions in pipelines were typically caused by human activity.
When constructing new structures, he said, locals in FESTAC, Amuwo-Odofin, and the surrounding areas should be mindful of the designated Right of Ways.
Participants at the rally begged the state administration to guarantee a timely response to emergency calls in cases of pipeline vandalism, according to the statement.
Some of the senior government figures, community development committees, market traders, traditional leaders, and youth representatives were among the attendees at the stakeholders’ forum.
