Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the China Civil Engineering Construction Company to construct the Lekki-Epe Link Bridge.
The signing ceremony took place in Beijing, China on Wednesday.
According to a statement shared on social media by Governor Sanwo-Olu, this infrastructure project is a crucial element of the state’s strategic transport masterplan. “We believe that good roads and transport infrastructure are essential for the growth of Lagos State,” the governor stated.
He emphasized that the MoU with CCECC reflects the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Lagosians.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the anticipated impact of the project on traffic congestion and economic development, noting, “By focusing on key road networks, we aim to reduce traffic congestion and create a seamless commuting experience, all while supporting economic growth.”
In addition to the bridge project, Governor Sanwo-Olu signed another MoU to implement solar power systems across tertiary institutions in Lagos.
“These solar systems, expected to generate about 50 MW, will provide cleaner and more affordable electricity. This project demonstrates our commitment to sustainable energy as a key part of our economic development,” the statement read.
