The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a 24-year-old undergraduate of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, Busayo Ayedun, before a Yaba Magistrate Court.
According to The PUNCH, Ayedun was said to have allegedly defrauded a company, CD Care Limited, of goods and cash worth over N900,000 in the state.
He is facing eight-count bordering on deliberate and unlawful conspiracy, felony, defrauding, deceit, pretence, stealing, forgery and false representation.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Oriabure, the accused committed the crime between July 10, 2021 and October 31, 2021, around Adenike Street, in the Fadeyi area of the state.
The charges read in part, “That you, Busayo Ayedun, and others at large, between July 10, 2021 and October 31, 2022, between 8am to 6pm at Adenike Street, Fadeyi, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did deliberately and unlawfully conspired among yourselves to deceive and defraud CD Care Limited of goods valued at N911,709, 84.”
Oluwatobi Odukoya, a sales agent for the company who testified for the prosecution, described how the crime was committed by saying that Ayedun ordered three items worth N638,706,000 online on the dates in question: a Samsung Galaxy A12, an iPhone 12 mini, and a Binatone standing fan.
According to Odukoya, Ayedun also asked for a reimbursement for a payment she allegedly made to the business and received one in the amount of N273,003,81.
He continued by saying that it was found that Ayedun had placed all of the orders under three different names: Wahab Adeyemo, Ayedun Ibiyemi, and Shoberu Michael.
Odukoya claimed that she was contacted by phone calls and Whatsapp messages to come within three months to clarify the misunderstanding after the company discovered that it had been defrauded and that all the payments Ayedun claimed to have made with bank statements and payment receipts were false.
Odukoya claimed that Ayedun failed to arrive, adding that the business informed the police, who detained her and took one of the phones.
Ayedun claimed in defense that she used her roommate’s point of sale device to pay for some of the purchases and that the police had found the phone with all the information.
She added, “I live in school in Ikorodu with my roommate. My school is Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu.”
The Chief Magistrate, O. A. Salawu ordered accused to retrieve evidence of payment from her roommate’s PoS machine with dates and present them before the court during the next trial.
