The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 27-year-old man for defiling a nine-month-old baby.
According to Daily Post, this was disclosed by the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Wednesday.
Hundeyin, stated that a concerned member of the public reported the issue to the Police on Monday at around 10:00 pm.
He claimed that the suspect reportedly proceeded to the flat where the mother had placed the infant on the floor before hurriedly leaving the property to make a purchase.
“The suspect allegedly had sexual intercourse with the little baby and immediately ran away from the scene.
“The mother of the baby, aged 16 years, came to the station with the baby and was issued a medical form to enable her to take the child to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
“However, on Tuesday at about 11:15pm, the suspect was smoked out from his hiding by detectives from Ijora Badia Division,” he said.
The suspect admitted to the crime while being questioned, the official said, adding that both the complainant and suspect had given statements.
When the police arrived, Hundeyin claimed, the crime scene was documented, and a blood-stained pair of pants was taken away as evidence.
He said that the suspect and case file would be sent to the state command’s Gender Department.
