Officials from the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Kick Against Indiscipline on Tuesday carried out an operation to remove street traders located around Aunty Kenny in the Agric area of Ikorodu.
As per a statement from the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, the displacement of street traders was conducted as a component of efforts to maintain a policy of zero tolerance for street trading within the state.
It read, “Operatives from the LAGESC/KAI on Tuesday dislodged recalcitrant street traders on the kerb at Aunty Kenny Agric on lkorodu Road as part of measures to sustain the zero tolerance for street trading.”
Under the guidance of the Commissioner in the ministry, Tokunbo Wahab, similar enforcement actions were conducted on Monday in various areas of the state, including Oshodi-Mushin Road, Ojuelegba Road, Yaba-Muritala Muhammed Way, Oyingbo under the newly constructed bridge, inner and outer Marina-CMS, Victoria Island, and Lekki.
The statement indicated that numerous offenders were apprehended during the enforcement and subsequently transported to the LAGESC/KAI headquarters for further interrogation and potential prosecution.
Additionally, the Commissioner issued directives to the LAGESC/KAI operatives and affiliated agencies to sustain the removal efforts and ensure that the traders do not reoccupy the cleared areas.
