The Lagos State Taskforce has recently conducted operations in various parts of the city, resulting in the seizure of 82 motorcycles from the Berger, Mile 2 Oke, and Orile areas.
This initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s ban on the operation of commercial motorcycles on major highways, aimed at enhancing road safety and ensuring the smooth flow of traffic.
The spokesperson for the task force, Raheem Gbadeyanka, released a statement on Monday detailing the agency’s commitment to maintaining safe and navigable roads throughout Lagos.
The chairman of the task force, Adetayo Akerele, underscored the seriousness of the situation, warning that both riders and their passengers who violate the ban would face legal repercussions.
“Passengers on okada are as guilty as the riders. If caught, they will face the full weight of the law alongside the riders,” Akerele cautioned, highlighting the shared responsibility in adhering to traffic regulations.
Residents were urged to comply with these regulations, which are designed to safeguard lives and property.
Gbadeyanka further stated, “All the 82 impounded motorcycles will be forfeited to the state government through the court,” indicating a firm stance against noncompliance.
This recent operation follows a series of crackdowns by the task force in previous months.
In August alone, 106 motorcycles were seized during enforcement activities at various locations, including the Iyana-School bus stop and the Ayobo Roundabout.
Similarly, in July, over 105 motorcycles were confiscated in raids on Iyana-Iba Road, Badagry Expressway, Igboelerin, and Alakija, reinforcing the ongoing efforts to regulate motorcycle operations in the state.
