The Lagos State Government has announced its intention to put an end to illegal dredging operations within the state and to remove operators who do not possess government permits in the dredging sector.
According to The PUNCH, this declaration was made by the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Dayo Bush-Alebiosu, during a meeting with the executive council members of the Dredgers’ Association of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, held on Saturday.
The commissioner emphasized that the purpose of the meeting was to secure the association’s cooperation in enforcing guidelines that govern dredging activities.
He also conveyed the zero-tolerance stance of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration regarding illegal dredging operations in Lagos State.
Furthermore, Bush-Alebiosu noted that the gathering was an opportunity for interaction with the association’s members to gain insights on how dredging activities could be enhanced.
He urged the association to join forces with the government in eradicating illegal dredging.
The government’s commitment to enforcing the law in this regard was strongly emphasized during the meeting.
“Anybody caught violating dredging laws and regulations of the state will be prosecuted,” he said.
