The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency on Monday said it responded to 1,367 emergency incidents across Lagos between January and October 2024.
The head of LASEMA’s Public Affairs Unit, Mr. Nosa Okunbor shared the data in a statement issued in Lagos, revealing monthly breakdowns of incidents managed by the agency.
He detailed that January saw 141 incidents, while February recorded 156.
“In March, we handled 148 cases; April, 132; May, 147; June, 126; July, 123; August, 121; September, 126; and October, 147,” Okunbor noted, totaling 1,367 responses by LASEMA this year. Since June 2019, he added, the agency has addressed a cumulative 7,809 incidents.
He highlighted road traffic accidents as the most common type of incident, with 50 vehicular accidents topping the list. “Following this were 43 truck and tanker-related issues, which included 35 accidents and eight breakdowns. Medical emergencies accounted for 20 incidents, ranking third,” Okunbor explained.
Fire-related emergencies comprised 17 cases, which included 16 fire outbreaks, one burnt vehicle, and an incident involving a BRT bus, according to the agency’s report.
The statement also provided insights into the spread of emergencies across the state’s local governments in October, with Alimosho Local Government Area recording the highest number at 29 incidents.
“Alimosho recorded the most incidents at 29, followed by Oshodi-Isolo with 20, Ikeja with 18, and Kosofe with 14,” Okunbor reported. “Other areas included Eti-Osa with 12, Lagos Island with 10, and Epe with eight. Apapa and Mainland each recorded six incidents.”
The data also showed Agege and Surulere with five incidents each, while Ojo and Mushin had three each. Shomolu, as well as incidents occurring outside Lagos boundaries, recorded two each, with Amuwo-Odofin, Ibeju-Lekki, Ikorodu, and Ifako-Ijaiye each recording one.
Notably, no incidents were recorded in Ajeromi-Ifelodun and Badagry local government areas, Okunbor concluded.
