A Lagos Waste Management Authority official lost his life late Monday night after being struck by a commercial minibus, commonly called “Korope,” at Ketu Bus Stop.
Reports indicated that the accident occurred when the minibus collided with a stationary LAWMA compactor truck, leading to the fatality.
Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, cited reckless driving and improper parking as key factors in the crash.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was caused by reckless driving on the part of the minibus driver, as well as the failure to place a proper ‘C-Caution’ sign at an appropriate distance from the parked LAWMA truck,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
Tragically, the LAWMA worker on duty at the time was fatally struck and succumbed to his injuries before emergency teams could intervene.
The minibus driver, who sustained serious injuries, was promptly treated by paramedics at the scene.
Officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit have since taken custody of the deceased’s remains for necessary formalities.
