Lebanon’s Education Minister, Abbas al Halabi, has called for an unprecedented closure of all public and private educational institutions, including universities, in response to a devastating series of attacks.
The tragic incident on Wednesday saw nine lives lost and approximately 2,800 people injured across the country.
Minister al Halabi’s directive aims to express strong condemnation of what he described as a “criminal act committed by the Israeli enemy against Lebanese citizens.”
The attacks involved coordinated explosions of hand-held telecommunications devices, primarily targeting members of the pro-Iranian group Hezbollah.
Hezbollah has promptly attributed the bombings to Israel, vowing to retaliate. The explosions, which predominantly caused injuries to victims’ hands, also resulted in wounds to the face, abdomen, and eyes, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.
The sheer scale of the attacks has underscored the rising tensions in the region and the urgent need for a coordinated response.
