Prominent Nigerian singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu has passed away at the age of 72. Onwenu reportedly collapsed at a birthday celebration for Mrs. Stella Okoli on Tuesday evening.
According to TheNiche, she was subsequently taken to Reddington Hospital in Lagos, where she was pronounced dead.
An eyewitness at the event confirmed the incident, expressing sorrow over the sudden loss. “It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024), and after performing, she slumped.
She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it,” the witness stated.
As of now, Onwenu’s family has not yet issued an official statement regarding her passing.
Onyeka Onwenu leaves behind a rich legacy with her renowned music albums, including “In The Morning Light” and “Dancing In The Sun.” She also made significant contributions to film, featuring in notable productions such as “Half of a Yellow Sun” and “Lionheart.”
