Just hours before the Local Government elections in Rivers State,on Saturday morning, a devastating attack occurred at the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Suspected arsonists reportedly detonated explosives, causing significant damage to the facility.
Video clips circulating on social media show the aftermath of the explosion, which is believed to have involved dynamites.
The main gate and security house of the APC secretariat were severely affected, along with parts of a nearby building.
The chairman of the state caretaker committee for the APC, Chief Tony Okocha, confirmed the attack to Leadership Newspaper and expressed outrage over the incident.
He accused supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of orchestrating the assault on the party’s office.
Okocha stated, “At the wee hours of Saturday, pro-Fubara civilian soldiers detonated dynamites at our office.”
He further noted that a second attempt to ignite the building was thwarted when vigilant security personnel quickly extinguished the fire.
This incident raises concerns about the escalating tensions and political violence in the lead-up to the elections.
