Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Monday, led former Governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, on an inspection of the Ibadan Circular Road Project, which has been named in Ladoja’s honor.
The two leaders toured the 32.2-kilometre East Wing of the project, where significant infrastructural work is nearing completion.
This section connects the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to Badeku Village on the Ibadan-Ile Ife Road.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser Media, to the governor, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, confirmed the development.
The Ibadan Circular Road Project was originally conceptualized during Ladoja’s tenure as governor between 2003 and 2007.
However, it is under Makinde’s administration that the ambitious project is now being executed, with the goal of easing traffic congestion in Ibadan and driving industrial growth in Oyo State.
Speaking on the project’s significance, Governor Makinde emphasized its groundbreaking status, stating, “The Circular Road will be the very first motorway in Nigeria. With the Circular Road, we are redefining the city limit not just for Ibadan but for the majority of the local governments around Ibadan.”
His administration has committed to completing the first phase, which includes the 32.2-kilometre East Wing and the 36.7-kilometre North-East Wing, extending from Badeku Village to Akinyele Local Government Area.
Joining the governor and Senator Ladoja on the tour were several dignitaries, including the Senior Executive Assistant (General Administration) to the governor, Chief Bayo Lawal.
