The Economic and Financial Crime Commission has secured the conviction and sentencing of Aisha Alkali Wakil, aka Mama Boko Haram.
This was disclosed by the anti-graft agency in a statement on its official Twitter page on Friday.
Wakali with three others, Tahiru Alhaji, Saidu Daura and Prince Lawal Shoyode, were jailed seven years for conspiracy.
Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court who gave the ruling on Thursday also sentenced them to another seven years imprisonment for obtaining money by false pretences.
The defendants whose first arraignment before Justice Kumaliya was on September 4, 2020 were charged with conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N15 million.
Disclosing this in a tweet, EFCC wrote, “The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the EFCC has secured the conviction and sentencing of Aisha Alkali Wakil, (a.k.a Mama Boko Haram) alongside Tahiru Alhaji, Saidu Daura and Prince Lawal Shoyode.
“Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, sentenced them on Thursday, September 29, 2022 to seven years imprisonment each, for the offences of conspiracy and another seven years for obtaining money by false pretences.
“Before their conviction, the defendants were first arraigned on September 14, 2020 before Justice Kumaliya on two count charges for the offences of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N15,000,000.00 (Fifteen Million Naira)”
