Manchester United have confirmed the departure of seven players as they revealed their retained list for the 2024-25 season.
The announcement comes after a disappointing 2023-24 campaign, with uncertainty surrounding the future of manager Erik ten Hag.
United, on Wednesday morning, unveiled their retained list ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
While ten Hag’s future remains uncertain, several players with expiring contracts were expected to depart, including former Real Madrid star Raphael Varane and French forward Anthony Martial.
Joining them in leaving the club are Brandon Williams, Under-21 player-coach Tom Huddlestone, Charlie McNeill, Marcus Lawrence, and Kie Plumley.
Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are among four players in talks to renew their contracts, while the club is keen on extending Shola Shoretire’s stay. However, Omari Forson is reported to have rejected their latest offer.
Varane leaves after three years at United, having joined from Real Madrid, where he also left as a free agent.
Despite struggling for form and fitness last season, he played a crucial role in United’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.
Martial, who burst onto the scene in 2015 with a stunning goal against Liverpool, failed to fulfill his potential at Old Trafford, making 317 appearances but struggling to become a regular starter.
Williams, who made 51 appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has been on loan at Norwich and Ipswich, with a return to Ipswich a possibility after a successful spell last season.
Forson, though not part of the seven, has an uncertain future after turning down a contract offer. He made his first-team debut in the FA Cup and also started a Premier League game against Fulham, but contract negotiations with the club have stalled.
