Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappé, has delivered a stunning blow to his former club, Paris Saint-Germain by launching legal action to recover a colossal €55 million, ₹511 Crore, in unpaid wages.
This bold move could potentially lead to PSG’s expulsion from the UEFA Champions League.
According to a report by the French newspaper ‘Le Monde’, Mbappé is insisting on the payment of €55 million, which he asserts is owed to him under his previous contract with PSG.
The breakdown of this substantial sum includes a €36 million signing bonus that was due to be paid in February, alongside the last three months of his wages, and an ‘ethical bonus’ for the same period.
The situation has intensified as Mbappé has escalated the matter to the legal committee of the French Professional Football League.
Additionally, through the French Football Federation, he has brought the case before UEFA.
With the involvement of the LFP, PSG now faces the possibility of severe consequences, including a potential transfer ban and the revocation of their UEFA license.
Such a sanction would prevent them from participating in the Champions League, a significant blow to the club’s ambitions.
The report further highlights that any club participating in UEFA competitions is required to prove that they have no outstanding salary payments to their employees, with the deadline for this proof being February 28 before the start of the licensing season.
Mbappé’s move to Real Madrid marked the end of a seven-year spell at PSG, during which he became the club’s all-time leading scorer.
However, the departure was marred by tension, with reports surfacing about a heated exchange between PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Mbappé prior to the star’s transfer to the La Liga giants.
