Kylian Mbappe is set to be sidelined for approximately three weeks after sustaining a leg injury during Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory against Deportivo Alaves on Tuesday night.
The French forward found the back of the net, scoring Madrid’s second goal in the hard-fought win at the Santiago Bernabeu, but was later substituted after experiencing discomfort in his left leg.
Initially, there was optimism that the injury was minor, with hopes Mbappe would not miss any playing time.
However, subsequent examinations have revealed the problem is more serious than first anticipated.
In a statement released by the club on Wednesday, Madrid provided an update, “Following tests carried out today by Real Madrid’s Medical Services on our player Kylian Mbappe, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. His progress will be monitored.”
As reported by The Athletic, Mbappe will be out of action for about three weeks, ruling him out of key upcoming matches, including Sunday’s highly anticipated derby against Atletico Madrid.
Real Madrid will also be without their star forward for their UEFA Champions League clash away to Lille on October 1 and their subsequent home match against Villarreal before the international break.
If his recovery goes as planned, Madrid will hope to have Mbappe fit for the important fixtures following the international break.
This includes La Liga encounters with Celta Vigo on October 19 and Barcelona in the high-stakes El Clasico on October 26.
Additionally, there’s hope that Mbappe will be ready for the crucial Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund on October 22.
Mbappe’s absence adds to a growing list of injured players for Real Madrid. Currently, Brahim Diaz, Dani Ceballos, Eduardo Camavinga, and David Alaba are all recovering from injuries, while Jude Bellingham has just returned to full fitness.
On the international front, France will also be without their talismanic forward for their UEFA Nations League fixtures in October, where they face Israel and Belgium, leaving the French squad to adjust to life without their star attacker during the crucial period of the tournament.
