The Commissioner for Health in Adamawa State, Mr Felix Tangwami, has disclosed that at least 19 children have lost their lives to suspected measles complications in Mubi North Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking with reporters on Saturday in Mubi, Tangwami stated that over 200 children in the area have been infected.
The outbreak was first reported in Yola, prompting a swift response with medical personnel and medication dispatched to affected areas. Tangwami assured that children with severe infections would receive care at hospitals.
The medical team is set to move from Mubi to Gombi Local Government Area, where another outbreak has been reported.
Tangwami attributed the outbreak to parents’ refusal to immunize their children.
