The Medical Students Association has confirmed the identities of the 20 medical students abducted last Thursday while traveling to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students Annual Convention in Enugu.
The association’s General Secretary, University of Maiduguri Chapter, Abwa Lawrence, cnfirmed the list of the victims.
According to The PUNCH, Lawrence on Saturday, eight of the students are from Maiduguri who joined their colleagues from the University of Jos in the ill-fated journey.
“We are deeply concerned about the safety of our colleagues and are working closely with authorities to ensure their swift rescue,” said Abwa Lawrence, General Secretary of the University of Maiduguri Chapter.
The abducted students include eight from the University of Maiduguri and 12 from the University of Jos. Their names have been released on social media and confirmed by the association.
“We urge the public to pray for their safe return and support the efforts of security operatives working to rescue them,” Lawrence added.
The police in Benue State have deployed security operatives to the area to rescue the students, but as of the latest report, there was no update on their status.
“We remain hopeful and committed to ensuring the safe return of our colleagues,” Lawrence said.
