Football legend, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, professionally known as, Pele, said Lionel Messi “deserved” to win the World Cup, after Argentina defeated France 4:2 in a penalty shootout in the final game of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The three-time World Cup winner, after the game in Sunday, immediately took to his Instagram page to praise the Argentine team, particularly, Messi for winning his first World Cup.
Pele also hailed the French team and its Talisman, Kylian Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick in the final which had ended 3-3 after extra-time, and scored another goal during the penalty shootouts.
He wrote, “Today, football continues to tell its story, as always, in an enthralling way. Messi winning his first World Cup, as his trajectory deserved.
“My dear friend, Mbappe, scoring four goals in a final. What a gift it was to watch this spectacle to the future of our sport.”
