In the early hours of Saturday morning, Nigerian time, Lionel Messi made a memorable debut for Inter Miami by scoring the game-winning free kick.
In his first game for Inter Miami, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner came on in the second half and secured a 2-1 victory over Cruz Azul with a free kick in the 90th minute.
Before this win, Inter Miami hadn’t had a victory in a while. Messi stated he was fortunate the ball went in as he expressed delight over the game’s outcome. He made a goal in honour of a hurt comrade.
He said, “Let me dedicate this victory to Ian Fray (Inter Miami teammate) who was suffering in the locker room from the injury he sustained. He comes from two serious injuries and today he has the bad luck to go through an injury again.”
Lionel Messi left Paris Saint Germain after the expiration of his contract to join the MLS club side.
