Gospel singer, Godwin Okeke, popularly known as Minister Godwin, has opened up about how the tragic loss of his father during his formative years became the pivotal moment that steered him toward gospel music.
Speaking with The PUNCH, Minister Godwin reflected on the impacts of his father’s passing, which occurred during his teenage years.
He revealed that the event marked the beginning of his journey toward faith and music.
He stated, “My encounter with God after the death of my father as a teenager gave me direction and purpose. That single encounter brought clarity and led me to the path I’m treading today.”
The singer, known for powerful tracks like ‘Ide Taye De’ and ‘I Have a Father’, shared that the latter was birthed in the depths of his grief—a period he described as one of the darkest in his life.
“In a time of intense grief, God gifted me the song, reminding me that He is a father to the fatherless. God assured me that He had taken on my father’s role, both as my heavenly and earthly father, just as the scriptures say in 2 Corinthians 6:18,” he shared.
Minister Godwin’s music, rooted in personal loss and spiritual growth, has resonated deeply with audiences, offering solace to many who face similar struggles.
His story serves as a testament to the transformative power of faith and the healing found in gospel music.
