Bauchi State’s office of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control has initiated a three-day operation targeting fake Milo chocolate drinks circulating in local markets.
According to The PUNCH, the Bauchi State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Kamai revealed this development during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday.
“We have commenced inspections across markets and superstores to eliminate the counterfeit Milo products following a directive from our Headquarters. This operation will span three days, beginning on Tuesday,” Dr. Kamai stated.
In addition to the crackdown on counterfeit products, NAFDAC plans to engage with agrochemical dealers in Bauchi this week.
The meeting aims to raise awareness about the dangers of using banned chemicals like Dictholoruvis and Paraquat for food preservation, especially as the harvest season approaches.
“These chemicals have been banned due to their hazardous nature. We will educate dealers on the risks they pose when used improperly,” Kamai added.
Furthermore, Dr. Kamai advised bakers and packaged water producers to ensure their operational licenses are renewed every two years as required. Failure to do so, he warned, could lead to penalties that might disrupt their business activities.
He also urged small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to register their products with NAFDAC to facilitate their entry into the Nigerian market.
