The Nigerian Police Force has this evening, condemned the attack and vandalism of some banks and other establishments in Ogun State by hoodlums who hijacked the naira scarcity protest on Monday.
Punch Metro reported that at least three banks were attacked during the protest that erupted in the Sagamu area of the state days after protesters barricaded the Mowe area of the state on Friday as the protest spiralled into chaos.
This publication reported that hoodlums attacked and torched Union Bank, First Bank and Keystone Bank branches located in the area.
However, in a statement by the Force Public Relations officer, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Monday evening, the police described the attacks as heinous, pointless, nasty, and cruel.
Adejobi wrote, “Why were nearly ten banks demolished, an IEDC station burned, and numerous locations set on fire? It’s quite bad that the perpetrators won’t face the consequences like the innocent because they have nothing.”
Adejobi vowed that all those involved in the vandalism will be fished out, including those that encouraged them to do it.
He also stated that several people have already been detained, and they will soon face charges in court with arson, while additional offenders will eventually be found, one by one.
“I spoke on this issue not too long ago, now everyone can observe what people have done in Sagamu, people from Sagamu will have to travel to Okenne, Ijebu, or Abeokuta to conduct banking, and they will have to wait a very long time for the power to be restored. Who is the loser?
“All is well with my country. Ire o,” he concluded.
