The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has apprehended 22 individuals in Kano State during a series of coordinated raids targeting notorious drug hotspots across the state.
In a statement released on Friday, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, said the arrests were made as part of the intensified crackdown on drug-related activities under the leadership of the State Commander, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad.
“On April 10, our operatives carried out successful operations at various locations, including the Dan’agundi Construction Site, Gwangwazo Area, Farm Center along Zaria Road, Tashar Rami, and Filin Idi,” Muhammad-Maigatari stated.
He emphasized that the operation was a reflection of the command’s commitment to safeguarding public health and security by dismantling drug networks operating in the state.
“Drug abuse and trafficking remain significant threats to community safety. This raid is part of our broader strategy to disrupt illegal drug supply chains and protect our society,” he said.
During the operation, officers recovered a range of illicit substances such as cannabis sativa, “suck and die,” rubber solution, and various locally fabricated weapons.
The spokesperson noted that investigations are underway to determine the roles of each suspect, adding that those confirmed to be traffickers will face prosecution.
“Anyone found guilty of drug peddling will be charged accordingly in court, while individuals identified as drug users will be enrolled in the NDLEA’s Drug Demand Reduction Programme for counseling and rehabilitation,” he said.
Muhammad-Maigatari reassured residents of Kano that the agency will continue to operate with vigilance and innovation to stay ahead of emerging threats in the drug landscape.
“We remain undeterred. Our proactive approach in tackling drug offences ensures we are always a step ahead,” he said. “We call on the public to support our mission by reporting suspicious activities related to drugs in their neighborhoods.”
