Agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have detained a Brazilian returning to Nigeria, Agbasi Prosper Chux, who was carrying 105 packages of cocaine wrapped as candy.
Following reliable information, the suspect was apprehended in the MMIA’s D arrival hall on Monday, December 25, 2022, during the inward clearance of passengers flying on Qatar Airways from Sao Paulo, Brazil, via Doha.
Prior to the NDLEA officials taking a closer look at the duty-free nylon bags containing packs of candy he was holding in his hands, they had already searched the suspect’s two checked-in baggage and had come up empty-handed.
While a team of NDLEA officers on stop and search duty on Monday, December 26th, arrested a suspect, Idris Saeed, 19, with 60 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa weighing 30 kilograms, their colleagues in Niger state on similar operation along Jebba-Mokwa road also recovered 240 blocks of the same substance weighing 168 kilograms from multi-colored sacks loaded in a Peugeot J5 bus with registration number MAG 146 XA, coming from Lagos and going to Kano for delivery.
On December 24th, 9,900 ampoules of pentazocine injection (42kgs) were found in Kogi state after agents stopped a truck traveling from Onitsha, Anambra state to Maiduguri, Borno along the Okene-Abuja route.
In the same line, on Tuesday, December 27, a suspect, Ibrahim Jibril, 20, was detained on the same road with 40 blocks of sativa cannabis weighing 16 kilograms as it traveled from Lagos to Jigawa.
Lauding the officers and soldiers of the MMIA, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger state Commands for the arrests and seizures, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) CON, OFR, urged them as well as their compatriots across the nation to step up their offensive action against drug cartels in the new year with an equal focus on drug demand reduction initiatives.
