The Force public relations officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi has said whoever attacks banks or ATMs in the name of protests is an armed robber and would be treated as such.
Adejobi made this know on Friday while reacting to a tweep, with the username @remi_owonifari, who requested for help to douse the unrest in the Ojota area of Lagos State.
“We heard theirs unrest at Ojota. Kindly do something,” the tweep tweeted.
Reacting, Adejobi said that some policemen have been dispatched to the scene but noted that the force police will not take it easy on anyone caught attacking a financial institution.
He wrote, “So I was told that policemen have been dispatched to the area. Many who claim to be protesting have their targets. They go to bank, ATMs, markets, malls, and financial institutions. Maybe they should be reminded that whoever attacks any bank, ATM, is an armed robber and will be treated as such.
“I see and hear people, even well-educated and exposed, condemning the police for dispersing (with minimum force) those who went to attack the CBN in Benin. Very funny.
“When you are caught or seen at a bank or CBN with the intent to attack such an infrastructure, the police have the power and the right to attack you in all manners the feel reasonable, more so, if seen with an offensive weapon.”
Speaking further, the police spokesperson revealed that there is nothing wrong with protesting and promised the people of police protection only if their protest is well coordinated and void of attacks.
“So, let’s be guided and avoid unnecessary “protest.” If you want to protest, make a well-coordinated one. Even the Police will protect you.”
