Nigeria Football Federation technical committee member, Victor Ikpeba, has affirmed that embattled Super Eagles head coach Finidi George retains the full backing of the federation.
Finidi has faced significant challenges early in his tenure, marked by the Super Eagles’ lackluster performance in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
In these qualifiers, the West African team managed only a 1-1 draw with Bafana Bafana and suffered a 2-1 defeat away to the Cheetahs.
Currently, they find themselves in a precarious position, sitting fifth in Group C with just three points from four games.
The disappointing results have sparked widespread calls for Finidi’s dismissal.
Ikpeba, speaking to SCORENigeria, said, “Nigerians asked for a local coach and Finidi was found to be the best man to lead the Super Eagles at this time.”
He continued, “The technical committee chose the best in the interest of the country. Finidi will therefore continue to enjoy the full support of the NFF despite the recent results posted by the Super Eagles.”
