President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, remained hopeful that the Super Eagles will secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite their rough start in the qualifying rounds.
The Super Eagles have managed to gather only three points from their first four matches, placing them fifth in Group C.
They trail the joint leaders, Benin Republic and South Africa, by four points.
To keep their World Cup dreams alive, the three-time African champions must clinch victories in all their remaining six games.
Gusau has expressed confidence in their qualification prospects, even amid their current challenging circumstances.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “This is a very sad moment for Nigerian football and we can not run away from that. What I can assure you is that we’re working tirelessly with the Sports Minister to make sure we take some holistic measures that will change the entire system.”
Gusau reaffirmed his optimism, stating, “It’s still possible (to qualify for World Cup) and we’re going to make it.”
