Retired lieutenant-general, Lamidi Adeosun, has stated that Nigerians must not leave the task of ending insurgency to the hands of the Nigerian Army alone.
Adeosun who served as the former Chief of Operations and Training before becoming the Chief of Policy and Planning stated this in an interview with TVC.
While highlighting the various factors which has made the war against insurgency hard to totally eliminate, he stated that Nigerians have exposed the military to factors they are not meant to do and this has affected their level of performance.
He explained that there are various agencies tasked with the duty of maintaining peace and security in Nigeria and that the Army should not be left alone to do this.
“We must commend ourselves as Nigerians for the role they have played in curtailing the activities of terrorists against taking over the nation.
“The role of the military in solving insurgency is just 25 percent, the military should not be left alone to this, it is also important the police is well equipped to provide internal security for the nation.
“Also our soldiers are exposed to certain experiences and factors which they should not be ordinarily exposed to.There are various security agencies in Nigeria and the Nigeria army must not be left alone to tackle this, the traditional rulers, religious leaders, community members all have a duty to play on ending insurgency, ” he added.
