The Nigeria Football Federation has initiated negotiations with Jose Peseiro regarding a new contract as national coach.
“His contract ended in July and we’re now talking to him and his lawyers,” NFF president Ibrahim Gusau said on Wednesday.
Peseiro had been employed under a contractual agreement with a duration of one year. According to Gusau, the discussions were impeded due to the postponement of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which served as the foundation for the contractual agreement.
The scheduled event is set to take place over the months of January and February. Peseiro has successfully guided Nigeria to secure qualifying for the upcoming event with a match remaining in the qualification process.
According to sources, the Nigerian Football Federation is reportedly seeking to negotiate a significant reduction in José Peseiro’s monthly compensation of $70,000 in a proposed contract extension that would span till the conclusion of the competition in Ivory Coast.
“We hope to conclude very soon and a decision will be made based on the recommendations of the technical committee,” said Gusau.
