The three-day burial for Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the esteemed designer of the Nigerian national flag, is set to begin on Wednesday, September 4, and will conclude on Friday, September 6, 2024, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a statement issued on behalf of the family, Pa Akinkunmi’s son, Akinwumi Akinkunmi, called on the nation to honor his father by flying the national flag at half-mast during the burial period.
“We are grateful to the Federal Government for the attention and support they have shown, particularly through the condolence visit led by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed,” Akinwumi said.
He further expressed the family’s anticipation for the Federal Government to fulfill its promises regarding the burial arrangements, acknowledging the ongoing support from various quarters.
“We remain hopeful of hearing from the government soon concerning its commitments to the burial plan. Meanwhile, the family deeply appreciates the support from members of the 7th Oyo State House of Assembly, the Chairman of the Oyo State Advisory Council, Bolaji Ayorinde, and council members who have been steadfast in their support,” Akinwumi added.
The late Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, who passed away recently, is remembered for his monumental contribution to Nigeria’s identity through the creation of the national flag.
