The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a real estate agent, Nnanyereugo Benjamin Best, over the murder of his girlfriend.
It was reported that Best who had been previously declared wanted by the police was arrested in Sierra Leone.
The manhunt for Best was initiated on October 10, 2023, following the murder of 21-year-old Augusta Onuwabhagbe Osedion on July 13, 2023.
Osedion, was a student of Lead City University student.
According to reports, the tragic incident unfolded when an argument between Best and the victim culminated in her stabbing at his residence in Oral Estate, Ajah.
Subsequently, the suspect took what is believed to be evasive action, acquiring a Sierra Leonean passport and adopting the alias ‘Kanu Princeton Samuel’ before fleeing Nigeria on July 28.
Best’s image was widely circulated across various social media platforms, playing a pivotal role in his identification.
It was also gathered that a compassionate individual in Sierra Leone recognized him and made contact with the victim’s mother via social media.
In response, the mother engaged the services of prominent lawyer Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) to facilitate communication with the Sierra Leonean police authorities.
Upon confirming Best’s escape from Nigeria, Lagos State Police Commissioner Mr. Idowu Ohonbunwa directed the Lagos State Police Command to declare him a wanted fugitive on October 10, 2023.
A government official commented on the developments, stating, “The Sierra Leonean police immediately commenced a manhunt for Best Nnanyereugo Benjamin.
The mother of the deceased dispatched a family member to Freetown who was able to work with the police.
It was gathered that the suspect was arrested on Friday, October 20, at a club in Freetown and is currently being detained to await extradition.”
